With the advancements of Ai, there has been some speculation on whether or no there will even be a need for web designers. With porgrams liked Midjourney, users can provide a text prompt for the Ai, and produce a variety of web designs for multiple industries in just minutes. Designs that would have taken hours, has now been reduced to minutes. With advancements like these, it has raised questions for the future of both web designers and creatives.
What is Midjourney?
Midjourney is a tool that can generate images or designs based on the text prompt you provide. Currently, users who have Discord can provide text prompts to the program and it will produce designs in just under two minutes. While most users are using the program to generate general images or replicate memes. Some users have started looking into ways they can use the program for their website, logo, and brochures.
How will Midjourney Replace Web Designers?
Like I mentioned above, Midjourney can produce designs in just under two minutes. According to Forbes, building and designing a website can take anywhere from a few weeks, to just over 6 months. With programs like Midjourney, they can significantly reduce the amount of time in takes to build a website and produce complex designs that would be difficult for even the best designers.
What are Some Examples of Web Designs Midjourney can Create?
The image above is an example of a prompt that I wrote to the Midjourney to determine the capabilities of the program. The prompt I inserted was, "Design a beautiful website for a coffee shop, ui/ux, forest green, tan, brown, -- v 4." I also inserted the url of a website concept for Starbucks hat was on Dribble. As you can see, the program was able to generate four different designs of the prompt I inserted that followed Ui/Ux principles and included the color palette that was given. However, you can notice that the bottom left design has a design flaw with the smaller coffee cup. While Midjourney can produce great web designs, not all of them are perfect and you will see some design flaws as you continue to enter web design prompts.
What is Midjourney Still Missing?
First of all, Midjourney is not perfect and can still create flaws within the designs. Like the example prompt I showed, the bottom left design had a flaw, which means Midjourney does can produce flaws within the designs. Also, while it can produce beautiful designs, it does not mean that these designs will be effective for your audience or brand. While it can give a good starting point, Midjourny does not know your brand, and it is up to each business determine what their brand is and how they can convey it best to their audience.
Will Midjourney Ai Replace Web Designers?
In short, no! While Midjourney has vast capabilities and can create web designs for multiple industries, it still lacks emotion. One of the most important parts for me about building a site is determining what content is most likely to convert your audience. This information is vital for the success of your site, and it is something that Midjourney cannot pick up on quite yet. The best way to utilize Midjourney is to provide it simple design prompts that web designers can grab to add to your website. Using Midjourney will greatly reduce the time it takes to design graphics and other content on your site, but at this moment, should not completely replace web designers as a whole.
